Sustainable Junk Removal: Junk2Go's Weekly Charity Donations

Each Thursday morning we open our Junk2Go depot for our weekly "Donation Day". It's the day when we welcome our charity partners to come to our depot and effectively go shopping for items they need for the communities and families they are working with. The items are goods that we have collected and sorted from our waste collections and include furniture, appliances, clothing, books, toys, sporting goods etc.

Preparing for Donation Day

It's a busy morning as we prepare for the charities to arrive - we put signage out, ready the items that they have pre-requested, layout high viz vests etc. We stagger the charities' pick up times as it can get fairly congested.

Sorting and Donating Items

Once they arrive they select the items they want. The Junk2Go team then weighs and registers all the goods to be taken so that we can accurately record and measure the difference we are making in waste that would otherwise have likely made its way to landfills across Auckland. We then help load the items into our charity partner's vehicles. It's always great to see cars, vans and trucks leaving our depot laden with recycled goods destined for a new life.

Our Charity Partners

The charities we partner with include Visionwest, Monte Cecilia Housing Trust and Kidz Need Dadz - all organisations doing amazing work to make a positive difference. Some of the charities bring in people from their communities. They may be moving from transitional housing into their own property or they could be fleeing a domestic violence situation etc. These people are in need of items such as beds, couches, dining tables and chairs, kitchen items, clothing etc. The goods they will take away are all items we have recycled from our junk and rubbish removal collections. They can also take artwork, decorative items, books etc which can help turn a house into more of a home.

Making a Difference: Junk2Go Turning Junk2Good

We donate the items back into the community for free so in this case the family gets a little help on their way with furniture and household goods at no charge, as they move into their new house. And importantly it saves "junk" that still has life left in it, going to landfill. We give all these goods away with our blessings. That's what we call "Junk2Go turning Junk2Good".
