Junk2Go were thrilled to win the "Community Collaboration Award" at the "2024 Tāmaki Makaurau Zero Waste Awards", an event that celebrates individuals and organisations for their efforts to reduce waste.

The Community Collaboration category "celebrates businesses or social enterprises 'walking the talk' demonstrating commitment in building community partnerships to reduce waste" and is kindly sponsored by Be A Tidy Kiwi.

In presenting the award the judges commented that "Junk2Go is a rubbish collection business based in Avondale that focuses on diverting useable items to people in need instead of sending them to landfill. Collected items like furniture, clothing, appliances, and ewaste are sorted and donated through the "Junk2Go turning Junk2Good" initiative. Their depot opens weekly to charity partners, allowing them and the families they support, to freely take what they need, helping to turn houses into homes."

Junk2Go was humbled to be amongst so many hard-working and deserving nominees, all doing their best to reduce waste. It is great to see our Junk2Go team and our charity partners recognised for our sustainable junk removal and all the incredible work they do in sorting and recycling goods that were once someone's junk, and then passing them on to people in need.

Our sincere thanks to the organisers Ecomatters Environment Trust, Auckland Council; the sponsors Uru Whakaaro, Zero Waste Network Aotearoa, Be a Tidy Kiwi, TROW Group; supporters Hãhã Wine, Auckland Indian Association Inc., Citizen and Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei.
And a warm congratulations to all the other award winners!

Weekly “Donation Day”

At Junk2Go, every Thursday starts bright and early. Our truck teams get ready for a day of serving our clients, while our Depot team prepares for our special "Donation Day". On this day, we welcome charities to our depot to take any items they need for those they are working with – all for free. The goods are all items we have sorted and recycled from our pickups, both from commercial and residential sources and include furniture, beds, tables, appliances, whiteware, kitchenware, clothing, toys, books etc.

At 8:30 am, our charity partners begin to arrive to discuss their requirements and we officially get underway at 9am. There is a flurry of activity as charity representatives and those they are working with browse through the available items. Some people are moving into a new home from transitional housing and have nothing. Some just need a bed or dining chairs to sit on – whatever the need we do our very best to accommodate it.

Our charity partners leave uplifted, knowing they've positively impacted the lives of those they serve. Many of the items donated would have otherwise gone to landfill, but instead they go to those who are in genuine need – all at no cost. We call this “Junk2Go turning Junk2Good”. We’re dedicated to recycling and continuing to grow our donation programme.
